A Season of Gratitude, Growth, and Grounding

A Season of Gratitude, Growth, and Grounding

By Chris Austin, Owner & President of Ardiah

Every November, I take a breath—not a long one, because year-end in payroll and payments moves at the speed of caffeine—but enough to look back and recognize just how much we’ve been blessed with. This year hits different. It’s been a year of change, a year of bold steps, and a year where “thankful” isn’t just a cute seasonal tagline… it’s the truth.

A Big Year of Big Changes

In 2025, Lindsey and I officially took over Ardiah. That alone would’ve been enough excitement for one year. But then came our new office, expanding our team, adding new businesses to the family, and doubling down on what we’ve always believed: Maine small businesses deserve local service from people who know them—not an out-of-state call center that thinks “Rockland” is somewhere near Portland, Oregon.

We’ve had the kind of growth that only happens when a community rallies around you. And Midcoast Maine—our home—you’ve done exactly that.

Why Reflection Matters for Every Small Business Owner

It’s easy to grind so hard that you forget to stick your head up and actually see how far you’ve come. But reflection isn’t optional—it’s fuel. When you look back, you remember:

  • How many storms you pushed through.

  • How many times you chose grit over giving up.

  • How much better and stronger you and your business are today.

  • How your team stepped up when things got tough.

  • How your customers kept you in business—even on the days you felt like you were hanging on by a New England thread.

Reflection isn’t about patting yourself on the back. It’s about recalibrating, learning, and honoring the journey that got you here. When you know where you’ve been, you make stronger decisions about where you’re going.

Being Thankful Isn’t Just Good Practice—It’s Good Business

Gratitude is one of the best leadership tools you’ll ever use, and it doesn’t cost a dime. Thank your customers. Thank your team. Thank the people who send business your way, cheer you on, challenge you, and tell you the truth even when it stings.

Your employees especially—when they feel seen and appreciated, they don’t just work harder… they own their role with pride. And in small business, that kind of buy-in isn’t optional; it’s everything.

The Year-End Push… and the People Who Matter Most

Let’s be honest—the holidays are a sprint for most small businesses. Payroll deadlines, payment processing, holiday sales surges, final tax projects, and all the “we just need this one thing before the end of the year” moments.

But you know what’s just as important?
Family. Friends. Rest. Joy.
All the things you’ll lose if you stay in “work mode” until January 1st.

Balance doesn’t mean slowing down—it means prioritizing what matters. Your business needs you sharp. Your family needs you present. Your employees need you grounded. Your soul needs a breather.

What I’m Most Thankful For This Year

  • My wife Lindsey—my partner in life and in business.

  • Our amazing kids, who continue to grow, surprise us, and remind us why we work as hard as we do.

  • Our growing team who continues to make Ardiah the trusted local payroll and payment solution in Maine.

  • The hundreds of clients who choose local over corporate giants.

  • A community that truly believes in working together.

  • A year of changes that pushed us, stretched us, and ultimately made us better.

We are grateful.
We are energized.
And we’re just getting started.

From our family to yours—thank you for supporting a Maine small business. Thank you for believing in local. And thank you for letting Ardiah be part of your journey.

Here’s to a season of gratitude, a strong year-end finish, and a 2026 full of even bigger things.
